Norman Borlaug: A Tribute

November 18, 2009, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Monsanto Room, LIAC

Presented by Dr. Robert Thompson, Gardener Chair in Agricultural Policy, Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics

By the time of his death in September 2009, Norman Borlaug had profoundly impacted both the process of agricultural development around the world and the way in which economists think about economic development. A Nobel laureate widely known as the “Father of the Green Revolution”, Borlaug's work as a crop scientist is considered by many to have saved at least a billion people from death by hunger, while demonstrating the possibility of transforming traditional agriculture. In this talk, Professor Robert Thompson will share thoughts on the impact and implications of Norman Borlaug’s life and career.
