Global Partnerships 2021-22

The ACES Office of International Programs seeks to strengthen existing international programs and introduce additional faculty into them by supporting partnerships of ACES scholars to conduct impactful work through the 2021-2022 Global Academy: Partnerships for Global Impact Program

Five teams have been selected for the program, which will include a series of seminars and roundtable discussions, providing a forum for participants to build skills and knowledge about international work. The selected teams will also receive funding to support international travel and activities that promise to broaden the scope of an existing international engagement or provide a meaningful foundation for developing new international activities.

The ACES Global Academy is in its 15th year.

Crystal Allen & Matthew Wheeler, Animal Sciences

  • Focus Country: Tanzania
  • Partner Institution: Sokoine University of Agriculture
  • Theme:  Improvement of Dairy Cattle Genetics for International Partners

Juan Arbelaez & Jessica Rutkoski, Crop Sciences

  • Focus Country: Colombia
  • Partner Institution: Latin America Fund for Irrigated Rice (FLAR) and International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT)
  • Theme:  Deployment of genomics and phenomics tools to develop novel breeding strategies to improve grain milling, appearance, and cooking quality for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Paul McNamara & Jared Hutchins, Agricultural and Consumer Economics

  • Focus Country: Sierra Leone
  • Partner Institution: Njala University
  • Theme:  Livestock marketing and its relationship to health, poverty alleviation, and food security.

Hope Michelson & Sarah Janzen, Agricultural and Consumer Economics

  • Focus Country: Tanzania
  • Partner Institution: International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA, a CGIAR center)
  • Theme:  Small farmer beliefs about fertilizer quality

Ann Witmer, Agricultural and Biological Engineering & Bernhard Scully, Music

  • Focus Country: Bolivia and Sierra Leone
  • Partner Institution: Universidad Privada Boliviana (Bolivia) and Njala University (Sierra Leone)
  • Theme:  Bridging the Context Gap in Technology and Music
