As the season shifts and cool temperatures and frosts make overwintering tropical plants and protecting roses prime topics for home gardeners, University of Illinois Extension has a series of video step-by-step guides available on YouTube.

"U of I Extension's YouTube site (http://www.youtube.com/uiextension) has over 136 videos covering plant care topics," said Jane Scherer, U of I Extension urban programs specialist and director of its websites. "These range from techniques to use in the garden to seasonal information."

The videos feature U of I Extension horticulture specialists and educators who take users step-by-step through each topic.

Scherer noted that videos on winter protection for roses, taking in house plants, and overwintering geraniums will come in handy for home gardeners.

"In the past few months, we have had over 34,000 viewings of these videos, and we will keep adding new topics," she said.
