Jenna Baker (ALEC) Study Abroad

Italy Study Abroad Trip

In May 2018, I had the opportunity to travel to Italy for twelve days on a study tour organized by Dr. David Rosch. This trip, designed for students in the ALEC major and Leadership Studies minor, allowed us to explore the history and philosophy behind the rise and fall of the Roman Empire.

We examined leaders in power during that time and how they influenced the government, culture, and politics of the country. We traveled to Rome, Florence, and Venice to immerse ourselves in the culture and history of Italy while applying ancient leadership strategies to today’s world. We toured historical sites including the Vatican, the Colosseum, and Saint Mark’s Basilica as well as agriculture- and food-related attractions.

Studying abroad was a fantastic experiential learning experience that allowed me to meet new people and step outside of my comfort zone. I have since been able to apply the theories and knowledge I learned on the trip in my own life, and it has given me a new perspective on life and culture in the United States.
