5 Questions: Marketing assistant dean Larson ready to raise ACES awareness
Jenny Larson has been on the job at ACES for just two weeks, but as the new assistant dean of marketing, she's excited to steer the ACES brand into the future. Read on to learn more about Jenny.
Where did you grow up? Do you have an agriculture background? If so, what did that look like?
I grew up on a farm in rural Edgar County, Illinois. My dad grew up on farm in Fisher, attended the College of ACES as a pre-vet student, and went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Illinois, so we were raised to love animals and the farm life.
What motivates you in your work?
My experience leading marketing organizations spans more than 30 years; 20 of those have been in higher education. I’ve covered a lot of ground in my career, from developing strong brands to building impactful communication strategies to managing public relations. One of the biggest takeaways from my career is I do my best when I am surrounded by people with common goals who support each other. That’s what gets me excited to do my best work while also helping others around me do their best work.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I bleed orange and blue so when I’m not at work, you will find me watching Fighting Illini Athletic events. Go Illini!
What book are you currently reading?
Adamant, by Lisa Bevere. Picked this up during a conference last month and have found it to provide some great insights into how to find truth in a world full of opinions.
What's your favorite place on campus?
State Farm Center (aka Assembly Hall) during basketball season. This facility is an architectural wonder, and there is not a bad seat in the house.
