Allie Place (CPSC) Study Abroad

Spain Study Abroad Trip

I have had the opportunity to study abroad twice, both in Spanish-speaking countries. I really enjoy learning and practicing Spanish, so I chose these programs on purpose.

The first program I participated in was faculty led over winter break to Costa Rica. I chose to visit Costa Rica because I was interested in learning about tropical agriculture. On this trip, we toured many different types of farms including coffee, chocolate, pejibaye, honey bees, and buffalo. Costa Rica was beautiful and the people were incredible. I am so glad I had the opportunity visit.

The second program I was a part of was the summer True Spanish Experience program. I studied language for four weeks, and had a six week internship in Cuenca, Spain. I chose to visit Cuenca because the internship opportunities aligned with my crop sciences studies. While in Spain, I interned at an agricultural research station, where I was able to do field and lab work, which was great. Assimilating to the culture and daily schedule of Spain was a rewarding challenge. I gained a lot of self-confidence and independence during my ten weeks in Spain.

Studying abroad has allowed me to gain incredible experiences and skills that apply toward my crop sciences major.
