Soybean Innovation Lab selected to lead new $1M initiative to maximize USAID impact

URBANA, Ill. – The Soybean Innovation Lab (SIL) at the University of Illinois has been selected by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to lead a new $1 million project — Innovation to Impact (i2i), as part of Feed the Future, the U.S. Government’s global hunger and food security initiative. Efficient technology delivery for commercial uptake and economic sustainability requires a demand-driven industrial research framework.

Division of Nutritional Sciences receives USDA Higher Education Challenge Grant

URBANA, Ill. ­–The Division of Nutritional Sciences graduate training program at the University of Illinois received a $150,000 Higher Education Challenge Grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture to jumpstart development of courses as part of a proposed new certificate program focused on food/ feed regulations and nutrition policy. The new program will prepare graduate students for leadership positions in industry and government.

Five ACES faculty receive major ASABE awards

URBANA, Ill. – Five University of Illinois faculty members received major awards at the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) 2020 annual international meeting. The virtual event took place July 13 to 15. Illinois recipients include Paul Davidson, Vijay Singh, Richard Cooke, and Prasanta Kalita, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and The Grainger College of Engineering, and Laura Christianson, Department of Crop Sciences, College of ACES.

ACE graduate student receives 2020 Fulbright grant

URBANA, Ill. – Brian Waters, of Liberty, Illinois, was awarded a Fulbright grant to conduct research in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Waters earned a bachelor’s degree in transnational studies from Westminster College. At Illinois, he is pursuing dual master’s degrees in urban planning and agricultural and consumer economics.

Hardesty conferred Fellow status by National Council on Family Relations

URBANA, Ill. - The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) has conferred its prestigious Fellow status on Jennifer L. Hardesty, professor of human development and family studies in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.

NCFR Fellows are nominated by their peers and are selected by the NCFR Fellows Committee. Hardesty was recognized as a new fellow at the 2019 NCFR Annual Conference this past week in Fort Worth, Texas.

Gaskins honored as Keith W. and Sara M. Kelley Endowed Professor of Immunophysiology

H. Rex Gaskins, a professor of animal sciences and nutritional sciences in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at the University of Illinois, was honored as the Keith W. and Sara M. Kelley Endowed Professor of Immunophysiology during an investiture ceremony at U of I on Nov. 7.

$6M grant renews center that seeks to understand science of drug abuse

With the goal of advancing the understanding of the neurochemistry of addiction, the Neuroproteomics and Neurometabolomics Center on Cell-Cell Signaling at the University of Illinois has had its funding renewed by the National Institute on Drug Abuse with a $6 million grant. Animal sciences professor Sandra Rodriguez-Zas runs the Bioinformatics, Data Analytics, and Predictive Modeling Core of the center.
