Shannon Flavin, crop sciences student in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) is the proud owner and entrepreneurial spirit behind Country Bumpkin Pumpkins, boasting 95 pumpkin, gourd, and squash varieties for all needs.
The purpose of roots is to act as a foundation: holding a plant straight and stable, and absorbing water from the ground to help it grow. The world's deepest root system reaches 400 feet under the ground. The deeper and larger the root system of a tree, the more strength the tree has to grow and spread its branches.

My 4-H journey began when I was just 8 years old when I joined the Chester 4-H club. At that time, I was absolutely terrified of public speaking and even raising my hand during a club meeting. However, through talks and demonstrations within my club, conference-style judging at the county fair, the annual public speaking contest, and even speaking to legislators in DC, I gradually came out of my shell and grew into a confident leader within 4-H.
