ACES prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion with dedicated office

For Elizabeth Olson, ACES associate dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion, DEI is much more than a trend or a catchphrase; it means sustained, intentional, data-driven work that appreciably benefits all ACES students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. 

“ACES is a great college to be a part of,” she said. “We just need to ensure that is true for everyone, regardless of identity, background, and experiences.”

A Homecoming tradition: Bringing together the past, present, and future of AGCM

For the past two years (and many years before) Agricultural Communications (AGCM) alumni and current students have gotten together to celebrate homecoming and the industry. It’s called the AGCM Homecoming Huddle, originally starting in the 1970s under Dr. Jim Evans.

This year’s celebration included a panel, dinner, and remarks from students, faculty, and guests. We were also able to showcase this year’s visiting Global Agricultural Journalist, Kallee Buchanan, from Australia.

When Danika Ford learned about the environmental impacts of fast fashion in high school, she started looking for college programs combining traditional environmental science with social science to understand how human motivations, behaviors, and policies affect environmental problems and solutions.

As a new student, explore opportunities and find your community

When it was time to start my freshman year at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign there was a mix of emotions. On one hand, I was excited to start a new chapter in my life. On the other hand, I was terrified knowing I had a new sense of independence and could explore a new environment. During my first semester at Illinois, it was hard and discouraging when I felt that. I was getting a different treatment than others and nobody would talk to me. It was very intimidating having to prove I was capable and worthy of being in the same class.

Being a senior now who has gone through a few interviews myself, there’s a few main takeaways I have from my own experiences and those around me. College of ACES welcomes largest class in 50 years, strengthens faculty with 11 promotions and 14 new hires

The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is entering the new academic year with significant growth, welcoming both its largest freshman class in 50 years and a talented cohort of faculty members. This fall, the college has promoted 11 faculty members and added 14 new faculty, further enhancing its academic, research, and outreach capabilities.

Transfer student finds her passion in ACES

One of the most beautiful things about college is all of the different paths that people have taken to get here. No matter how you ended up at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, there is a common goal among most people here: to graduate with a degree in something they are passionate about. Olivia Messerges, who transferred to Illinois as a Junior after completing a year of community college in her hometown, did exactly that. 

CSL Behring goggle donation promotes safer vision for Illinois programs

CSL Behring, a global biomedical company and industry partner of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, recently donated 750 safety goggles to the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. The Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory organized the donation, which will be kept on-site for staff and student interns engaged in projects requiring protective eyewear.
