As an ACES student, you are guaranteed an ACES Study Abroad Scholarship as long as you apply for it!

There are many ways to fund your study abroad experience through scholarships, financial aid, and proactive budgeting. If you have any questions about study abroad scholarships or would like to map out a list of scholarships you can apply to, please contact the ACES Study Abroad Office.

If you have questions about if or how your existing scholarships or financial aid will apply to your study abroad program, please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid or attend their study abroad-specific drop-in hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 2-4 p.m. at the Student Services Arcade (620 East John Street, Champaign, IL 61820).

Scholarships through ACES

ACES Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is guaranteed to all undergraduate ACES Students as long as you apply for it. The amount of funding varies depending on the cost of your program and your level of financial need. 

Students who apply to the ACES Study Abroad Scholarship will automatically be considered for additional funding from the following awards:

  • O’Hara-Brawn Scholarship: For students in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) Majors. 
  • Upson Garrigus Global Ambassador Grant: For students who have demonstrated a strong interest in international issues and a desire to create a unique learning abroad experience related to an academic, research or service project.
  • Other Departmental Awards: Varies by Department and Program

ACES Study Abroad Scholarship Application

Crop Science Undergraduate Travel Awards

For Crop Science Majors. This award may be used to help defray travel expenses for conferences, study abroad, etc. Priority will be given to applicants giving presentations at professional conferences. Applications should be submitted at least four weeks prior to departure.

Am I eligible for the ACES Study Abroad Scholarship even if I am not doing an ACES Study Abroad Program?

Yes! This scholarship is tied to you as an ACES student. It can be used towards any Illinois-approved Study Abroad Program. The award is contingent upon acceptance and commitment to your study abroad program. If for any reason you do not end up traveling, you will not receive the award.

Can I apply for the ACES Study Abroad Scholarship more than once?

Yes! You can apply for the ACES Study Abroad Scholarship as many times as you plan to study abroad.

How do I submit a competitive scholarship application?

The essays are very important for scholarship applications. We highly encourage you to have your essays reviewed by the Writers Workshop. If applying to the Gilman, please also be sure to submit your essays to the National and International Scholarship Office. They specialize in helping students submit competitive Gilman applications.
