Empowering smallholders and women farmers in Indonesia is the focus of two new projects funded by ADM Cares, the social investment program of ADM. The projects will be managed by a team from the ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss (ADMI), which is based in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at the University of Illinois.

A delegation from Sri Lanka’s largest university, the University of Peradeniya, visited the University of Illinois in mid-November as guests of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and the College of Veterinary Medicine.  

The Peradeniya delegation included the deans and five additional faculty from the colleges of agriculture and veterinary medicine. The visit was generously funded by Siva Sivananthan, a University of Illinois alumnus who has a vision to increase food security in Sri Lanka.

Three representatives from the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) traveled to Honduras in November to strengthen Illinois ties with Zamorano Pan-Agricultural School, one of the premier agricultural universities in Central America, and the research program at Alliance Bioversity and CIAT.

Students from the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and across campus embraced the opportunity to interact with the highest-ranking career Foreign Service Officer at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) during several meetings arranged by the Office of International Programs.

URBANA, Ill. — A team of animal scientists from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is set to deliver a potential game changer for subsistence farmers in Tanzania: cows that produce up to 20 times the milk of indigenous breeds.     

Over the past decades, Brazil has become the world’s leading soybean producer, as well as the leading consumer of pesticides. Despite concerns about potential public health consequences, little is known about the effects of pesticide exposure in the general population.

URBANA, Ill. — The memory of alum and former faculty member Burt Swanson lives on in students from the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign who are supported by the Burt Swanson Scholarship in Rural Development to study abroad. 

Nine faculty and staff from the College of Agricultural, Environmental and Consumer Sciences (ACES) have been selected for the 2023-2024 ACES Global Academy that will focus on building ties with French collaborators towards sustainable solutions for climate change, agriculture, household wellbeing, and global food system resiliency.

The year-long program will include a series of on-campus seminars, roundtable discussions, and a capstone visit to selected partner institutions in France. 

International seed grant recipients from the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) use this longstanding funding program to procure additional funding sources, foster new international collaborations, and introduce their students to global work.
