"Earth Day is my favorite day of the year"

To celebrate Earth Week, meet Emily Rohrbach, a junior studying Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) with a concentration in Fish and Wildlife Conservation Biology in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. This past winter break, Emily had the opportunity to partake in a short-term study abroad program located in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico.

The free, full-day event at the Illini Union serves as the capstone experience for undergraduate researchers participating in dozens of programs across the Illinois campus during the summer.

“I am a big believer that you are always where you are meant to be.” As an Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) sophomore at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Erica Stehlik lives out this belief daily, whether studying abroad in Dublin or working at Japan House in Urbana.

Celebrate National Nutrition Month at annual fair on March 6

March is National Nutrition Month™, an educational and informational campaign sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This year’s theme is “Beyond the Table,” encouraging people to think about nutrition from farm to fork, including food production and distribution to grocery stores and farmers markets. It includes how we eat at the table, on the go, in schools, restaurants, games, and events, and emphasizes sustainability and decreasing food waste.

Support program recruits incoming neurodivergent students at U. of I.

Urbana, Ill. — A fledgling four-year program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is recruiting incoming freshmen who are neurodivergent to help them succeed academically, socially, and professionally. Interested students and parents can register online to attend a virtual information night from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. on March 6.

Carrying Forward: Emma Hawkinson's Illinois Family Legacy

Illinois spirit flows deeply in the Hawkinson family! Meet Emma Hawkinson, a proud fourth-generation Illinois student, who carries this legacy with passion. For Emma and her family, the connection to Illinois is not a coincidence, but rather an intentional choice by each individual.

Despite the family ties, Emma’s parents never forced their alma mater on her or her siblings. This freedom allowed Emma to develop her own love for the university, which made all the difference to her.

My journey at Illinois

When I reflect back on the beginnings of my journey at Illinois, I am so grateful for how things have played out and the position I am in now. When I was initially applying for college, I nearly didn't apply to Illinois at all. I had my heart set on going out of state for years, and because of this, I hadn't even considered making an application. Fortunately, when I told a friend this, they instantly made me question my decision and strongly advised that I reconsider. I think about that moment a lot.
