NSF funds Phase II of Center for Advanced Research in Drying (CARD)

URBANA, Ill. – Drying is one of the most energy-intensive aspects of manufacturing, and new Phase II funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) will allow the Center for Advanced Research in Drying (CARD) to build upon five years of successful drying innovations in order to help reduce the considerable energy consumption by manufacturers across varying industries.

USDA funds ‘agrivoltaics’ project led by iSEE team

Urbana, Ill. – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced funding for a new project led by iSEE Interim Director Madhu Khanna, Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics, to optimize design for “agrivoltaic” systems – fields with both crops and solar panels – that will maintain crop production, produce renewable energy, and increase farm profitability.

Soybean Innovation Lab awarded $5 million to train Feed the Future Innovation Lab leaders

URBANA, Ill. – The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Soybean Value Chain Research (Soybean Innovation Lab, “SIL”) at the University of Illinois has been awarded $5 million by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to train and empower other Feed the Future Innovation Labs to achieve sustained impact from their innovations.

URBANA, Ill. - Each year, the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign recognizes the contributions of faculty, staff, and graduate students through the College of ACES and Paul A. Funk Recognition Awards. These awards honor individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements or exceptional service to the college. Recipients will be honored at a banquet Monday night at Pear Tree Estate in rural Champaign.

ADM’s well-connected Webb earns 2020 Friend of ACES distinction

URBANA, Ill. - Connections – in any industry – matter. They’ve always mattered to ADM’s Greg Webb, the 2020 Friend of ACES award recipient from the University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES).

ACES Dean Kim Kidwell and the college presented Webb with the award during the Farm Progress Show in Decatur this week. Kidwell, Chancellor Robert Jones, and Webb gave remarks during the presentation in the ADM tent.

Jamison Watson, ABE doctoral student, receives Schmidt Science Fellowship

URBANA, Ill. – Jamison Watson, doctoral student in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) at the University of Illinois, received a Schmidt Science Fellowship. He is one of 28 awardees in the 2021 cohort of fellows, representing 13 nationalities and multiple research fields.

Academic professionals honored with CAPE awards for 2021, 2020

URBANA, Ill. — A total of 12 academic professionals at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign were honored this week with the Chancellor's Academic Professional Excellence award, encompassing the 2020 and 2021 award cycles. The recipients, six from each year, received their awards remotely due to the pandemic. Jean Drasgow, director of ACES career services, and Brenda Koester, associate director of the Family Resiliency Center, are CAPE award recipients this year.
