Incoming Exchange Students

Thank you for your interest in becoming an ACES exchange student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While this website will provide you with helpful information, your first point of contact should always be the study abroad coordinator at your home university to determine if your school is a partner exchange school with us.

Credit system

Coursework is counted in semester credit hours. In general, one credit hour represents a one-hour class period that requires at least two hours of individual study each week for one semester. Thus, a semester three-credit hour course would meet for three hours a week and the student would be expected to perform at least six hours of homework, self-study, and/or research outside of class. A full semester course load is considered a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Grading system
