Beef and Sheep Facility Manure Holding Lagoon

The Beef and Sheep Facility Manure Holding Lagoon project is located at the Beef and Sheep Farm on South Race Street in Urbana, Illinois.

Timeline of work

• Design work is expected to be completed by October 2025 
• Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026
• Construction is to conclude in fall 2026

This system is not expected to increase odors. We will continue using a solid separator to remove the high-odor solids from the liquid manure, which helps prevent those solids from settling at the bottom of the lagoon and creating strong anaerobic odors. While some odor may still be present during agitation and application—standard practices in manure management—these activities are already part of current operations. As such, no increase in odor is anticipated.
