The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites Paul Ellinger, an esteemed alumnus and Vice President, CFO, and Comptroller of the University of Illinois System, to deliver the keynote address at the May 2025 Convocation Ceremony on May 17. 

“We are honored to welcome Paul Ellinger as our 2025 Convocation speaker,” said College of ACES Dean Germán Bollero. “Paul brings a deep understanding of our land-grant values and a wealth of experience. His journey from an Illinois farm to the highest levels of university financial stewardship offers a powerful example of how ACES prepares leaders to serve with purpose and integrity.”

A recipient of the 2025 ACES Alumni Award of Merit, Ellinger has been recognized by the college for his professional achievements and contributions to the university and the broader community. 

After earning his degrees in agricultural mechanization and agricultural economics, Ellinger significantly contributed to the efforts of Illinois Extension during the 1980s financial crises. His work helped develop crucial financial information and decision-making tools to support Illinois farmers. 

Ellinger, who also holds a Ph.D. in finance from the university, has served in various pivotal roles, including faculty member, department head, and Vice Provost for Budget and Resource Planning, before his current executive appointments. His leadership has been instrumental through numerous challenges, including state budget impasses and the global pandemic. Read more about Ellinger's career in an ACES feature story. 

“Returning to ACES as the convocation speaker is a tremendous honor,” said Ellinger. “This college shaped my values, my career, and my commitment to public service. I’m excited to celebrate this milestone with the Class of 2025 and to share a message of purpose, possibility, and perseverance as they step into their next chapter.”

The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the State Farm Center.
