A revolutionary renovation for 21st-century learning

The lower level of the ACES Library, Information and Alumni Center is poised for a revolutionary makeover, turning underutilized spaces into a collaborative laboratory with interactive classrooms for 21st-century learning.

The renovation will build upon the legacy of the Academic Computing Facility (ACF) that offered state-of-the-art information and technology infrastructure when the library opened its doors in 2001.

With $1.75 million in support from the Office of the Provost’s FY23 Investment for Growth Program, the college is reenvisioning the lower level of the ACES Library to create spaces that support learning in the evolving landscape of hybrid and online programs.

The ACES Learning Innovation Laboratory (ALIL) is a creative collaboration space, equipped with emerging technologies that will empower educators and industry leaders to design transformative learning experiences — including affordable and accessible programs for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented populations.

The renovation will add a large multi-use space and a new iFlex Classroom where students can interact and collaborate with remote presenters and classmates. It will also add a state-of-the-art recording studio for faculty and staff to create content for online programs.

The Monsanto Room, also on the lower level of the ACES Library, will be renovated into the Agricultural Communications Hub — a physical space that will house the James F. Evans Global Center for Food and Agricultural Communications.

The Monsanto Room will undergo a remarkable transformation, evolving into a vibrant student hub designed to foster collaboration and innovation. With a keen focus on enhancing the student experience, the room will include state-of-the-art audiovisual technology and modern furniture, creating an inviting atmosphere conducive to teamwork and idea exchange.

Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2024 to be completed in time to open sometime in 2025.

The plans also call for a student lounge and study spaces, pending additional funding.
